Electrification

Electrification

An ever-increasing trend in HVAC mechanical designs is the national and local presence of efforts to implement decarbonization or electrification solutions into applied component and system design.  By selecting an appropriately designed DOAS unit, connected to either a geothermal well in turn feeding water-to-water heat pumps or heat recovery chillers, or perhaps an air source heat pump as the hydronic cooling and heating source, the designers can “check the electrification box” for their designs. QLCIs and chilled beams, as the integrated terminal devices, are the perfect complement to this energy efficient system design.

Available Tax Credits and Project Cost Depreciation Incentives

Through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) measures, there are several levels of incentives available to projects being designed with all-electric solutions or decarbonization approaches. These incentives were created for owners of a wide variety of commercial buildings, ranging from education, government, to a host of private building types. One of the most efficient paths for utilizing electric heating and cooling is an efficient geothermal system.

In addition to IRA related incentives, Investment Tax Credits (ITC) and energy efficient saving opportunities through 179D tax deductions present additional paths for owners to save capital-invested dollars.   Full investigation into these available incentives, with a tax expert, should be integrated into an owner’s or designer’s pursuit of energy efficient and electrification (decarbonization) design plans.
